Last Ride Before Mellow
One day before Mellow moved in, we decided to make the most of our (temporarily) dog-free freedom. So we took the day off, packed our skis, and hopped on a bus to the Wilder Kaiser ski area in Austria. The ski resort? Massive. The view? Unreal. The plan? Ski everything. From the top of the mountain, we could see a thick layer of clouds stretching endlessly below us – like we were floating above the world. Magical stuff. But instead of stopping to take it in slowly (or, say, eat something), we just kept going. And going. And going. Food? Optional. Speed? Mandatory. We were determined to get every last run in before the bus left. And we almost made it. Almost. The final stretch was a bumpy, ridiculous “shortcut” that Ryan swore would save us time. It was basically a mogul field disguised as a slope. Ryan flew ahead like an alpine goat on Red Bull. Jenny, however… did not. Let’s just say the hill won that round. A few wipeouts later, we were somehow still in one piece – barely – and dangerously close to missing the bus. Ryan made it down first and heroically threw himself in front of the bus (okay, maybe not in front, but close) to stall it. Jenny arrived shortly after, slightly snow-covered but fully alive. We collapsed into our seats, starving, bruised, but laughing. It was chaotic, hilarious, and very on brand for us. And the perfect kind of day to end the chapter of just us two — before we became three.
